A lost tooth is not a lost cause.
Dental implants are considered to be the most effective solution for replacing teeth in modern dental medicine, and implantology is considered the most modern way to solve toothlessness, whether you’re missing just one tooth or all of them.
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is almost painlessly and securely inserted into the bone of the upper or lower jaw, depending on the location of the missing tooth. As such, the bone grows (osseointegrates) into it in only a few months and it serves as an “artificial root of a lost tooth” where a fixed (crown, bridge) or removable structure is made in the subsequent procedure, in accordance with the indications and the patient’s wishes.
Installing an implant is the best solution when one tooth is missing because, unlike a dental bridge, it does not require drilling of the adjacent healthy teeth.
It is important to emphasize that every lost tooth should be replaced, and a dental implant represents a long-term functional solution that ensures an even bite, quality nutrition, and restores a smile on the patient’s face, boosting their self-confidence.
Titanium is used because of its hardness and biocompatibility with human bones, meaning that it does not cause allergic reactions. It also has non-magnetic properties, so there are no restrictions related to diagnostic methods (e.g. MRI).
After a detailed clinical examination, it is necessary to get an X-ray so that our dentists can assess whether there is a sufficient amount of remaining bone, i.e. whether the height and width of the bone ridge are adequate for the installation of a dental implant. If the bone structure is not sufficient, an additional procedure of increasing (augmenting) the volume of the bone is required before the installation.
Before the procedure, we go through all the stages of implant installation and the stages that follow in a detailed discussion with our patients. We warn them that the treated area may swell and that it is very important to maintain oral hygiene to prevent wound contamination, and we also emphasize the importance of refraining from smoking because it interferes with the healing of the wound.
We use only high-quality Ankylos implants and Straumman group implants – Neodent at the Petković Polyclinic. In certain situations, we use the Neodent Aqua implants in order to accelerate the ingrowth of the implant and the bone. Both types of implants have been used for a long time, they are constantly being improved and have shown exceptional success. After installing the implant, we provide the patient with a booklet with certificates and a warranty for the material, guaranteeing the absence of any defects in the material.
